Every activity and work of parish life offers an opportunity to grow in friendship with those Christ calls together here in love. All St. John's parishioners and their friends are encouraged to participate in these upcoming parish events:
Healthy Lifestyle Challenge
Join us each spring for the St. John’s 5K and 2K fun run. Put on your running shoes and enjoy a morning of fitness, friends and fun. The race is open to anyone/everyone.
Every winter, SJE’s Girl Scout Brownies invite the seniors of the parish to enjoy an afternoon of tea, homemade treats, and good cheer in the Kennedy Room. The girls build teamwork and leadership skills as they create decorations, serve food, perform songs, and even participate in “oral history” by interviewing guests about their lives. Grandparents and senior parishioners have the chance to socialize with friends and to make connections across generations in a relaxed and festive atmosphere. This year, Troop 4775 will host the Senior Tea on Friday, February 8, 2013 from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Kennedy Room.
Irish Pub Night
The Irish say, “Céad mile fáilte!” A hundred thousand welcomes! Such is the spirit that welcomes all the revelers to St. John’s annual Pub Night and Ceili. Each year, as St. Patrick’s Day season approaches, magic happens… our school gym is transformed into the “Seven Sister’s Pub” for one night of revelry! Live music, delicious food, cold drink and great craic (fun) is the order of the day. By the end of the night many in the crowd are dancing “The Siege of Ennis” and other traditional ceili dances, and all are sporting the big smiles of a grand time.
Special Pentecost Mass followed by Potluck Celebration on May 19th at Noon. St. John’s Heritage Committee invites you to join them in celebrating a Special Pentecost Mass in the same way as it probably was done at the first Pentecost: the word of God proclaimed in different languages and to people from different countries. Don’t miss this uplifting experience that takes place every year during Pentecost in our church. The Special Mass will be followed by a wonderful potluck lunch in the Kennedy Room. Come and let the Holy Spirit move you!

Fall Gala & Auction, An Evening in Paris
A heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended St. John the Evangelist's Fall Gala and Auction, An Evening in Paris. The evening was a dazzling success and we deeply appreciate your participation in the Paris trip drawing, silent auction, live auction, and all of the exciting aspects of the event. A very special thanks to the dedication and hours of the many volunteers who made the gala possible. Your generosity of talent, time and treasure helped us raise thousands (the official tally is still being counted!) to benefit the programs of our beloved parish. Again, thank you.
Fall Gala & Auction Co-Chairs,
Kyra Lyons and Maureen Hathway

Thank you to all our supporters for making the 2012 dinner a great success. We especially want to thank all the workers behind the scenes for stepping up to cook the spaghetti and tomato sauce, the meatball crew for rolling over 1000 meatballs and the 8th grade class for serving everyone in attendance. A fun time was had by all. Congratulations to Lilly C. for winning the 50/50 rafflle! Thanks to Nancy Leonard for providing our musical entertainment.

SJE Annual Christmas Bazaar

St. John’s Christmas Bazaar provides the perfect opportunity to serve and celebrate our faith community as we prepare for the joyous celebration of Christ’s birth. Like the bazaars of old, our Christmas Bazaar is a community gathering and marketplace with gift items, art and crafts from our quality vendors and traditional St. John's booths. Make time to connect with old friends, make some new friends, and enjoy the festive Christmas shopping and fun events for the children!

Breakfast with Santa
December 1, 2012
Every December, the St. John the Evangelist community kicks off the Christmas season in earnest with a special visit from Santa Claus himself. Breakfast with Santa is a long-standing tradition in our parish which allows parents and children alike to share the wonder and joy of the season. The original Santa Claus, St. Nicholas, was a 4th century bishop of Myra in present-day Turkey who was famous for his generosity to those in need. Over time, he was transformed into Santa Claus, a jolly figure who brings gifts to good little boys and girls and reminds us all of our joy at the birth of the Baby Jesus. Instead of traipsing to a crowded shopping mall and standing in a line of harassed parents and children rehearsing their lists of Christmas wishes, Breakfast with Santa allows families to break bread together (actually, to pass plates of eggs, pancakes, and sausage) before magically summoning our visitor from the North Pole with chants of "Santa, Santa, Santa". Those chants rise to shrieks of delight as Santa makes an entrance that would be envied by the biggest rock star. Families line up, admire one another’s children, and exchange greetings as they wait for their turn to place their little ones on the great man's lap. Photographs are available and everyone basks in the excitement of the children and warm community spirit. We hope you join us this year and for years to come!

Once or twice each school year, the parish holds a fun family bingo evening to benefit St. John the Evangelist School. This year, as a cure for our winter blues, we are holding a family bingo night on February 1, 2013. Come join the fun as children (and some adults) ecstatically yell “BINGO”, munch on dinner (pizza and beverages), win games and prizes galore.
