“Once we discover the full light of Christ's love, we realize that each of the loves in our own lives had always contained a ray of that light, and we understand its ultimate destination. That fact that our human loves contain that ray of light also helps us to see how all love is meant to share in the complete self-gift of the Son of God for our sake.”
Pope Francis

Spaghetti Dinner

Sunday, October 21, 2012
Thank you to all our supporters for making the 2012 dinner a great success.  We especially want to thank all the workers behind the scenes for stepping up to cook the spaghetti and tomato sauce, the meatball crew for rolling over 1000 meatballs and the 8th grade class for serving everyone in attendance.  A fun time was had by all. Congratulations to Lilly C. for winning the 50/50 rafflle!  Thanks to Nancy Leonard for providing our musical entertainment.

Fall Gala & Auction, Come Fly with Me

Save the Date!  October 25, 2014
Calling all Auction Volunteers - We Want You!

The 2014 Auction Gala chair committee has been formed, the date and theme have been chosen (October 25th, “Come Fly With Me!”), and now it’s time for you to join the effort to make the 2014 SJE Auction Gala the most successful one ever! We’re celebrating mid-century American cool, so if you remember the Rat Pack and love that hipster vibe … we’ve got just the place for you.

Whether you are ready to step up and lead a committee or just roll up scenes, please join us for our kickoff meeting to discuss the various auction committees and the ways in which you can help. Volunteer opportunities are many and varied and can take as little or as much of a time commitment as you can offer. For more information, please contact sjeauction@gmail.com today.

St. John the Evangelist Annual Christmas Bazaar

Every November, make time to connect with old friends, make some new ones and enjoy the festive Christmas shopping and fun events for the children! Like the bazaars of old, our Christmas Bazaar is a marketplace with gift items, art and crafts from our quality vendors and traditional SJE booths.

Please visit Parish Photo Galleries to see pictures from SJE Annual Christmas Bazaar.

Breakfast with Santa

Every December, the St. John the Evangelist community kicks off the Christmas season in earnest with a special visit from Santa Claus himself. Breakfast with Santa is a long-standing tradition in our parish which allows parents and children alike to share the wonder and joy of the season. The original Santa Claus, St. Nicholas, was a 4th century bishop of Myra in present-day Turkey who was famous for his generosity to those in need. Over time, he was transformed into Santa Claus, a jolly figure who brings gifts to good little boys and girls and reminds us all of our joy at the birth of the Baby Jesus. Instead of traipsing to a crowded shopping mall and standing in a line of harassed parents and children rehearsing their lists of Christmas wishes, Breakfast with Santa allows families to break bread together (actually, to pass plates of eggs, pancakes, and sausage) before magically summoning our visitor from the North Pole with chants of "Santa, Santa, Santa". Those chants rise to shrieks of delight as Santa makes an entrance that would be envied by the biggest rock star. Families line up, admire one another’s children, and exchange greetings as they wait for their turn to place their little ones on the great man's lap.  Photographs are available and everyone basks in the excitement of the children and warm community spirit. We hope you join us this year and for years to come!

Senior Tea

Every winter, SJE’s Girl Scout Brownies invite the seniors of the parish to enjoy an afternoon of tea, homemade treats, and good cheer in the Kennedy Room. The girls build teamwork and leadership skills as they create decorations, serve food, perform songs, and even participate in “oral history” by interviewing guests about their lives. Grandparents and senior parishioners have the chance to socialize with friends and to make connections across generations in a relaxed and festive atmosphere.  This year, Troop 4775 will host the Senior Tea on Friday, February 8, 2013 from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Kennedy Room.

Irish Pub Night
The Irish say, “Céad mile fáilte!”  A hundred thousand welcomes!  Such is the spirit that welcomes all the revelers to St. John’s annual Pub Night and Ceili.  Each year, as St. Patrick’s Day season approaches, magic happens… our school gym is transformed into the “Seven Sister’s Pub” for one night of revelry!  Live music, delicious food, cold drink and great craic (fun) is the order of the day.  By the end of the night many in the crowd are dancing “The Siege of Ennis” and other traditional ceili dances, and all are sporting the big smiles of a grand time.

Heritage Potluck

Summer has arrived and it is time to PARTY, SJE's style!  Come and join us in this SJE Community Potluck.  There will be eating, dancing and good wholesome family fun for all ages.
WHEN?  Saturday, August 10, 2013 @ 7:00 pm

WHERE?  SJE Auditorium

Come with a dish to share and your dancing shoes!  This will be a night to remember!

Family Bingo

Once or twice each school year, the parish holds a fun family bingo evening to benefit St. John the Evangelist School.  This year, as a cure for our winter blues, we are holding a family bingo night on February 1, 2013.  Come join the fun as children (and some adults) ecstatically yell “BINGO”, munch on dinner (pizza and beverages), win games and prizes galore.

Prayer for the community

O Blessed Lord, you have commanded us to love one another; give us the grace that, as we have received your unmerited favors, we may love all persons in you and for you. We implore your clemency for all people, but particularly for our friends whom you have given us. Love them, source of Love, and instill in them a thorough love for yourself, that they may seek, utter and do nothing save what is pleasing to you. Amen.

-St. Anselm of Canterbury (1033-1109)
