St. John the Evangelist School
1950-2001

Over the past fifty-one years that St. John the Evangelist School has been in existence, thousands of students have been educated in the basics of the Catholic faith while receiving an excellent education in all the other subjects. The educational program we offer today, while still focusing on the basics, keeps abreast of all the latest research on how children learn, how the brain develops and functions, and the styles of learning appropriate for each student. The challenge to keep in stride with all the progress that is being made in technology is also being met to the extent that is financially reasonable and possible.

St. John the Evangelist School has met the rigorous requirements for accreditation through the Middle States Commission on Elementary Schools for the past twenty years. Reaccreditation was just recently received this past spring. We chose to have our own Web site in coordination with the Middle States one as part of the requirement of reaccreditation. The address of this Web site is www.ces-msa.org. In the registry just type in our ZIP, 20902, and you will see our site. We are all very proud of meeting this challenge of reaccreditation in such a progressive way.

Our school was established to meet the educational needs of the children of our parish. We are very much aware of parents who may have difficulties meeting the financial responsibilities of choosing our school. To this end we are at the forefront of being politically active in bringing more awareness to our legislatures of their responsibility to make textbooks, other than religion ones, available to all the children of the state. We are in the first year of receiving such assistance and have the assurance this assistance will be available again next year. Financial scholarships are also made available through our Archdiocese and our parish as well.

We are convinced that all our students are gifted and talented. To this end we challenge each student to be the very best they can be. Along with our qualified teachers in all the basic subjects, our art, physical education, computer, and Spanish teachers, we have the assistance of two part-time resource teachers who work with our students who have been diagnosed as academically challenged. Our part-time Social Worker completes the circle of a very well-rounded educational program.

Looking to our past for wisdom, responsibly living out the present with determination, we believe that the future of St. John the Evangelist School is very secure.

Sister Kathleen Lannak, I.H.M., Principal
