FYI on Funding St. John's School
By: Bill McDermott

St. John’s School is a $1.5 million annual operation. The cost of operating the school is more than the cost of all other parish operations. The total parish budget for 2006-2007 is expected to be about 2.6 million. The revenue to cover the school operation comes from a number of sources. The biggest two being tuition and the parish investment. Other less significant but vital sources include fund raising, donations and registration fees. The 2006-2007 budget projects tuition to total $1.2 million and the parish investment to be $112,000. This direct investment in the school operating budget comprises about 10% of the annual parish expenses.

In addition to the annual investment in the operating budget, the parish has traditionally funded capital improvements, which are costs for major repairs and enhancements to the building and grounds. Some capital improvements, such as playground, are funded through dedicated efforts. The parish also provides tuition assistance for a small number of students with funds raised in a special collection.

If you are a family in need of assistance with the cost of your child(ren)’s education at St. John’s the first step is to apply to the Archdiocesan tuition assistance program then contact Msgr. Knestout if additional assistance is needed. If you are a parish member who can help keep our parish children at St. John’s you are encouraged to offer whatever support you can, no gift is too small. Our goal is to provide a Catholic education to all parishioners who desire it.
