Parish
Mission Statement
“What we have seen and heard we proclaim in turn to you,
so that you may share life with us.” 1John 1:13
As
part of the universal Church and the Archdiocese of Washington,
we the people of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Community strive
to become a community of faith. Out of fidelity to God’s call
to us in Baptism, we accept with humility our role as disciples
of Jesus Christ by following His commandments. We pray as individuals
and together under the guidance of the Holy Spirit and participate
in the sacraments, which inspire us to teach, build community, and
serve one another.
We
recognize our individual and community responsibility to live the
beatitudes. Therefore, we seek to imitate the mercy and justice
of Christ by humbly sharing with those in need in our family, our
neighborhood, our community, and our world. We work toward the unity
of all Christians as we witness the wisdom, beauty, and power of
the word of God as revealed in Sacred Scripture.
During
our life on this earth, we proclaim the Good News to all we meet
by our love, word, and example. Through the power of the Holy Spirit
we seek:
“Only
to do the right and love goodness, and to walk humbly with your
God.” Micah 6:8

The School
Advisory Board, or SAB, advises and assists Sr. Kathleen (principal) and
Monsignor Knestout (pastor) in the decisions pertaining to the St. John
the Evangelist School in the following capacities:

includes goal-setting for the school in light of the Parish Mission
Statement and the long-range planning for the future of the school.
- Formulation
of policies for the school.
- Financing
– providing advice on the budget, tuition, policies and planning
for the long-term stability of the school.

of the overall programs of the school in light of the established goals.
The Board shall also undertake regular evaluation of its effectiveness

The SAB offers
this assistance but in no way binds the principal or the pastor to any
one decision or course of action.
The SAB is
comprised of school parents, parish representatives, and faculty, in addition
to Sr. Kathleen and Monsignor Knestout. The SAB holds monthly meetings
during the school year as well as occasional committee meetings to address
specific areas of concern.
The SAB reports
out to the Parish Advisory Council as well as to the Home and School Association.
Representatives from the HSA sit on the SAB (former, current and future
HSA presidents). Soon, each month’s SAB minutes will be sent to
school families by email.
The SAB members
welcome comments, suggestions and offers of help from the committed and
energetic parents of St. John’s School. SAB members include: Monsignor
Knestout, Sr. Kathleen, Monica Bradford (secretary), Pete Caffes, Kate
Campion (president), Kelly Curtis, Theresa Deere, Sr. Daniel Mary, Allan
