Cub Scout Pack 466 has been sponsored by St John the Evangelist Church for over 53 years! This program, for boys in Grades 1 through 5, prepares boys for Boy Scouting and beyond. Following the Boy Scouts of America Cub Scouting program, we stress fun, respect for others and "Doing your Best." We also promote Catholic values and beliefs in our program.

Pack 466 meets once a month from September through June. Each month focuses on a theme. For example, our Cubstruction month featured a Master Electrician, while our Digging in the Dirt month, featured one of the top gemologists in the state of Maryland. However, in addition to monthly meetings, we have a number of annual activities: Montgomery County Thanksgiving Day Parade, Scout Sunday, Pinewood Derby, Family Hike, Cub Scout Day Camp, Blue and Gold Dinner, and many more. We also give back to the community by participating in the Annual Parish Clean-up and annually sponsoring one of the Martha's Table Days at St. John's. Other fun activities over the past several years include visits to the local fire station and WASH-FM.

While the Pack participates in numerous activities as a unit, the Cub Scouts are broken out into Dens based upon age. Each den also meets once per month to work on various activities. The Tiger Scouts in First Grade (age 7) enjoy hikes, learning about safety, and other events with their families in this introduction to Scouting. Wolf Scouts in Second Grade (age 8) begin to earn Achievements and Cub Scout badges and awards, in such areas as sports, nature, and cooking. The Third Graders (age 9) are called Bear Scouts and while earning their Bear badge and focus on such items as cooking, wildlife and learning how to deal with money. Fourth and fifth graders are Webloes. This two year program prepares the boys to enter Boy Scouts while hopefully earning Cub Scouting's highest award, the Arrow of Light. The Dens meet on a regular basis and participate in other Den activities in addition to the Pack activities.

In addition to all of these activities, a Scout is reverent and to that end, each boy is encouraged to earn the awards of his faith. For Catholics, it is the Light of Christ (ages 7 & 8) and Parvuli Dei (ages 9 thru 11). In addition, the National Catholic Committee on Scouting offers Cubs the Rosary Achievements. In 2006, five earned the Light of Christ, three the Parvuli Dei, ten earned the Joyous Mysteries Rosary Achievements and one the Sorrowful Mysteries Rosary Achievement.
